Associate donations helped create a hospitality cart to bring a bit of surprise and fun to the nursing units.

As our nurses continue to go above and beyond, it’s easy to forget that something as simple as a bottle of water or a tasty snack can make a positive impact on long days of giving life-saving care. When a hospitality cart was created to bring a bit of surprise and fun to the nursing units at Bon Secours St. Francis, staff member Kristy Jopek immediately felt the appreciation.

“We love to see the chaplains and Fr. Duncan coming around with the cart,” she said. “It really brightens our day.”

“It’s nice to know people are thinking of us. Just having the reassurance that we aren’t forgotten is wonderful.”

The food and hospitality cart are funded through associate’s generous donations for the greatest needs, giving local staff the flexibility to meet the unique demands of their community. The cart offers snacks, bottled water, juice boxes and special touches like hand lotion and other skincare products. It also offers a brief respite from the unprecedented demands on our nursing staff.

“Everyone is very, very appreciative,” she said. “We all work so hard every single day. When we don’t get a chance to eat because we’re so focused on our patients, snacks and water are a great gesture. Sometimes a snack cart item might be all I eat all day because I don’t want to step away from the people I’m caring for. Those snacks remind us that someone is thinking about us.”
