Selina shares, “I just want to give a big thank you for our restorative pay!”

Gifts for Good helped frontline workers like Selina Beck

When Selina Beck signed up to make a monthly donation to the Foundation, she never thought she would be a recipient of Foundation funds.

Selina, a registered nurse in the Endoscopy department at Mercy Health – Lourdes Hospital, recently found herself working on the front lines of the COVID-19 crisis.

With the Endoscopy unit all but shut down but for a few cases, Selina volunteered to work in the Critical Care Unit. The unit was transitioned to care for COVID 19 patients, where she worked for about seven weeks. Around the time she heard about the Caring for Our Own Fund for associate hardships, she had lost a couple of shifts. Her lost wages increased when she was transferred back to Endoscopy.

Selina is very grateful for the restorative pay she has received from the Fund. “The situation was already very stressful, and restorative pay from the Caring for Our Own Fund took part of that stress away,” said Selina. “Some people needed it even more than me to help their families.”

She was surprised to learn that the Bon Secours Mercy Health Foundation provided funding to help establish the fund. It was donors just like her (and you) who made it possible!

Selina knows what she received was special because she has friends and family who work for other healthcare systems who have not received this kind of help. She wants people who gave to know how thankful she and her co-workers are.
