Associate gifts to Meds to Beds and Med Assist programs mean patients don’t have to stop at the pharmacy and risk COVID exposure

Pharmacy manager Craig Carafa sees the impact of your gift every day, especially during the COVID-19 crisis.

Because donors like you support the Meds to Beds and Med Assist programs at Mercy Health —Springfield Regional Medical Center, patients recovering from COVID-19 or other conditions are able to avoid at least one stop on their way home.

“Most patients need prescriptions before they leave,” Craig said. “Donations mean they can have all their medications filled before they go home, even if they can’t afford the medication or copayments.”

“They have usually been here a long time, and because of the Meds to Beds program, they get in the car and off they go, rather than stopping on their way home to get their medication and risk COVID exposure,” he explained. Craig knows first-hand that your contributions are improving patients’ quality of life.

“I’ve been in pharmacy for 25 years and this is really essential in improving the patient experience here at the hospital,” he said.

“The support of our donors is so impressive and uplifting. We are able to take care of our patients in ways I’ve never experienced elsewhere.”

Being able to provide that special level of patient care is very important to Craig and his colleagues.

“As professionals, we are so grateful and appreciative of all the donations,” he said. “We are a small pharmacy, but because of these programs we can have a big impact and it is a real pleasure.”
