Mercy Health Foundation Mahoning Valley

Why I Give: To Express My Gratitude for the Sisters’ Impact on my Life.

The reason I established a modest endowment scholarship fund through Mercy Health Foundation, for qualified and needy student nurses, in memory and in honor of the Sisters of the Humility of Mary, is simply to express my sincere appreciation and deep gratitude for the positive influence they have had on my life.

It was 1911, 109 years ago, from a humble beginning, and with a vision, a mission, hard work and faith, they started a health care system, which has evolved into a nationally recognized entity, Mercy Health System — a second-to-none health care system — based on faith, honesty, integrity, humility, generosity, charity, compassion and love.

Over the last 60 years, since 1960, when I started at St. Elizabeth Health Center as an intern, the Sisters have been role models, who helped in shaping my life, and helped me to incorporate those virtues and those values into my own profession, and into my own life. It was their legacy, their priceless gift, for which I am, and will always be eternally grateful.
